Irving is the kind of author who develops and defines even minor characters so well that after only being introduced to a character once they have clarity and purpose. As only a very talented writer can, the main character Billy provides an intimate portrait of his bisexual identity over a span of a half century. One of the best coming of age stories that made me cry, laugh out loud, and sit in the driveway until the chapter was finished! A must read. Or expertly narrated by John Benjamin Hickey.
